Sic Bo, meaning "dice pair" is an ancient Chinese gambling game of chance played with three dice.

It is a simple game to play, where the object of the game is to either select the individual numbers, or a combination of the numbers that will appear on the dice after they are rolled. The betting possibilities and their payoff amounts are depicted on the table layout below by showing the faces of the dice in their many combinations. There are single die numbers, two of a kind, three of a kind, or combinations of any two or three of the dice. The betting board looks like the following:

Game Play

The game starts when players place their chips on designated sections of their choice. Once the bets are in place, the dealer shakes and rolls on the table. The dealer announces the numeric value of each die and enters these values into the electronic device on the table. All winning patterns of the three dice are lit up on the layout, and the dealer proceeds with paying off the winners.

Betting

There are seven different types of bets in Sic Bo:

  • Dice Face - Betting that any one of the six dice sides will show. If that number comes up on any one of the dice, the player wins even money. If two of the dice show the selected face, the bet is paid off at 2-to-1. And if all three dice show the same face, the bet is paid at 3-to-1.
  • Two Faces - Betting that a combination of two particular numbers will appear. If the player bets, for example, that a 1 and a 6 will appear and it does, the house pays off at 5:1.
  • Totals - Betting on the total of all three dice. The player selects a specific total from 4 to 17. Since the combination of faces that can result in the selected total varies, so too does the payoff. The chart below gives the payouts on a particular total bet.
TOTALPAYOUT
4 or 1760/1
5 or 1618/1
6 or 1514/1
7 or 1412/1
8 or 13 8/1
9 or 12 6/1
10 or 11 6/1
  • Small or Big - Betting that the total of the three dice will fall in a specific range. A bet on "Small" is on the total being between 4 and 10. A bet on "Big" is on the dice totaling between 11 and 17. But see the small print that says "Lose on any triple"? If any three-of-a-kind comes up, the house takes your wager.
  • Triple - Betting that all three faces will come up with a specific number. This pays out at 150:1
  • Any Triple - betting that all three faces will be the same. This pays out at 24:1.
  • Any Pair Betting that a pair of any particular number will come up pays 8:1
